Jude & Andy Benton

Serving with BCA since April 2020

Jude & Andy Benton minister in the Cooperating Parish of Croajingolong in the Diocese of Gippsland. The parish includes St Peter’s Mallacoota and St John’s Cann River. The Parish was hit hard by the devastating Black Summer Bushfires, followed by COVID restrictions. Through those difficulties, many new opportunities for ministry have emerged, including a weekly Christian radio broadcast, and involvement in recovery and community projects.

BCA’s link with Croajingolong dates back to 1921, when our founder SJ Kirkby first travelled there by foot. In 1922, Cann River became just the third location that BCA supported in both church ministry and through nurses who served the surrounding area. St John’s Cann River was built in 1928 from funds donated by BCA Deaconess Edith Reece.

Pray for new people who have moved to the area, particularly giving thanks for new workers who help sustain essential businesses. May we provide a warm welcome for newcomers, embracing them with the love of God.

Easter is another peak tourism period for Mallacoota. We pray for safety in the town and on the roads.

Pray too that people will come to our Easter services and discover the crucified and risen Christ afresh.

As winter approaches and tourism declines, we pray for refreshment for the locals who have worked so hard through the summer.

Pray too for enthusiasm and wisdom to minister in a relevant way to Cann River and the other small communities.
