Mission Profile

Jude & Andy Benton

Serving with BCA since April 2020

Jude & Andy Benton minister in the Cooperating Parish of Croajingolong in the Diocese of Gippsland. The parish includes St Peter’s Mallacoota and St John’s Cann River. The Parish was hit hard by the devastating Black Summer Bushfires, followed by COVID restrictions. Through those difficulties, many new opportunities for ministry have emerged, including a weekly Christian radio broadcast, and involvement in recovery and community projects.

BCA’s link with Croajingolong dates back to 1921, when our founder SJ Kirkby first travelled there by foot. In 1922, Cann River became just the third location that BCA supported in both church ministry and through nurses who served the surrounding area. St John’s Cann River was built in 1928 from funds donated by BCA Deaconess Edith Reece.

The Bentons Prayer Points for October 2024
  • We give thanks for our Op Shop and the ministry of care and listening that it enables.
  • We pray that the Christian volunteers will have courage to share their faith, and that people will have ears to hear what God has done in their lives.
  • We pray for extra Op Shop volunteers over the busy summer months.

The Bentons Prayer Points for November 2024
  • Please pray for the Mallacoota community as it grieves the sudden death of another community member. In our last newsletter, we wrote about the partnership we have with Beanies café, on the St Peter’s site. Cristian, the café owner, died on Sunday 10 November, in a tragic accident. The community, opshop and church are all devastated, please pray for his wife and children, and that we may have wisdom as we care for them and the community at this time.
  • For Mallacoota, this is the third death of a parent with preschool/school-aged children, in the last three months. The community is exhausted with grief and tragedy.
